If it’s from shoes that are too tight or ill fitting in some way, it’s because the friction causes blisters to form under the nail bed and it damages your nail probably causing it to fall off. I’ve had it happen to me after I wore hiking boots on a long hike that were too small. It SUCKS! It literally takes forever to grow back right because even when it does grow back, it’ll be a weird texture for months until it’s back to normal.
