CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) — With wedding season, graduation parties, and even pool season coming up people might be pulling out the summer sandals and think their toes need a little attention. But before they head out to get a professional pedicure theres some advice from skin specialists to make sure people don’t pick up a health problem. Experts say there’s nothing wrong with a good pedicure if people just take a minute to be sure the place they get their pedicure pays attention to universal precautions suggested to keep toes in tip top shape.Experts said take a quick look at the foot tub before people get in it. They should be cleaned with disinfectant between clients. Instruments used on feet are sterilized and should be sterilized before use again If it’s not obvious that those things are done people should check their own feet and ankles. Don’t get a pedicure if people have an open cut, a bug bite, or even an open scratch wound. The Environmental Protection Agency said microorganisms in foot spas can enter through a cut and cause an infection. Skin experts at the Cleveland Clinic also warn about callus removal. They said files made of metal that look like cheese graters can tear skin and leave people vulnerable to an infection. The ones that look like sandpaper are OK because they are softer on the skin and don’t appear to cause problems. If people are nervous they can ask questions about a tool before it’s used. In this week’s video I’m sharing MY SECRETS to skipping the salon for a perfect DIY pedicure. I use a few key tools and products at home to achieve baby soft skin and a perfect polish.

I love getting salon pedicures, but I found another way at home to prep my feet for summer. I prefer a chemical exfoliating foot peel over abrasive callous files and pumice stones. I achieve better and more consistent exfoliation with this type of product. (please watch the video and read the blog post below for general concerns and precautions with this product.)
**WARNING: If you are creeped out by peeling skin or close ups of my old feet, skip over the video from minutes 4:06 to 6:21. **
I also love using nail polish appliques to get a clean, professional looking nail polish job. And to maintain my pedicure, I reach for a couple of fun and kitschy products that are cute… and super relaxing!
For a full list of all the key PRODUCTS I USED and where to buy them, please check out my blog post this week: http://rosyscription.com/2017/06/diy-pedicure.html
