Question by reach for your dreamss.: can i dye light brown hair to blonde?
my hair was naturally a honey blonde and i got it bleached at the hairdressers to a lighter blonde, but it REALLY damaged my hair. i used to have long healthy hair but after the bleach i had to cut half of it off and it felt really dead. so about 4 months after getting it bleached i got a box dye which was meant to be my natural colour but it turnt it a light brown, but it kind of has blonde / grey highlights throughout it.. i want my hair back to blonde but don’t want to get it bleached at a hair dressers. it is in better condition then it was when i first got it bleached, and i only bleached my hair ONCE, i didn’t even touch up my roots. would it be too risky to put a box dye over it? like an ash blonde or something.. i really want my blonde hair back.

well i suppose it depends on how blonde you want to go I went from really dark brown to platinum using boxed dyes from the stores no problem although I had to use it twice to get rid of the yellow tones. But I find that the garnier nutrisse creme ultra pre lightner the best for me p.s I have reall short pixie hair and after I dye mine its always nice and fluffy feelling so not sure about the damage side of it but mines ok 🙂 hope this helps

Never bleach or strip your hair. You DON’T need it unless your hair is black to a very dark brown!! first buy john Frieda blonde toner shampoo and conditioner. It’s kind of expensive but less expensive than other blonde toner shampoos.it should have a VERY purple tint. This takes out the bronze tones! Use your favorite dye in the color you want. it might take more than once to get your hair to the color you want. Wait two weeks and dye it again. Using the purple shampoo and conditioner every other day. John Frieda also makes other shampoos to lighten your hair so you can alternate if you want but only the purple shampoo will nutralize your bronze tones that come from darker hair. (The purple shampoo will only work after you dye it. It does not work on hair thats color has not been altered. Which is fine since you’re dying it but just remember if you let your hair grow out naturally the purple shampoo won’t lighten it, you’d need the lightening shampoo). Dye it every two weeks until it is the color you want. After that every 4-6 weeks. Using the purple shampoo to keep your hair blonde and keep it from taking in any darker tints.

When you go from brown to blonde, have professional help but make sure your specific on the shade you would like. Tell them you’ve already bleached your hair and it damaged it and they will die it instead. xx

dont listen to people telling you to put a colour on your hair…because you have put a colour on your hair you cant lighten previously dyed hair without bleach, thats the biggest cause of people ending up ginger! the hairdressers most probably used a high strength peroxide with the bleach to get it done more quickly and damaging your hair in the process, you should go to the hairdressers ask for the lowest strength peroxide they can use for your hair, it will take longer to develop but wont really damage your hair. or if you really want to do it yourself, id recommend bleach highlights with professional products, this is what i use,
wella blondor, you can get it cheap on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wella-Blondor-bleach-sachet-30g-sent-1st-class-post-next-day-dispatch-pick-qty-/251100434912?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Hair_Care_Hair_Colouring_Dyes_PP&var=&hash=item3a76c091e0
then you’re going to need a low strength peroxide so get a 10 or 20 vol peroxide:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Truzone-Cream-Peroxide-6-20-Vol-250ml-/190723746101?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Nails_Manicure_Pedicure_CA&hash=item2c68056935
then you’re going to need a highlighting cap and some gloves for your hands
you’ll need to mix 2 parts peroxide with 1 part bleach…(so mix 60g peroxide with 30g bleach)
leave on your hair until it looks like a very pale yellow colour then rince
