Question by katy: New beauty therapist getting complaints?
I’m a newly qualified beauty therapist and a client made a complaint about a pedicure I did . They wrote in an email saying i wasn’t up to standard. I’m really upset and cant stop judging myself . Do many new therapists get complaints?

Firstly you should make it known that you newly qualified and secondly I would reach out to the customer, offer your apologies, inquire as to why they were unsatisfied with the pedicure and offer to give them a (big) discount or even for free to fix the problem. Stress that you value their custom and were very concerned to hear that they weren’t happy.
Having said that, also remember that if people don’t tell you to your face at the time of the treatment then what are you supposed to do? You’re not a mind reader – make it your policy to ask during the treatment and at the end if they are happy. You can even go as far as having very brief (keep it short and sweet) forms to fill in asking for a quote or to give a mark out of 10 regarding how happy they are/would they return etc.
Don’t let one person dampen your spirit, at the end of the day they are one person and although our trade relies on word of mouth (a lot of the time) if you get in touch with them and speak to them then you’ve done all you can and they can’t be angry about that. Chin up!
