Spa Pedicures

Spa Pedicure Tips and Information:

What is a Spa Pedicure:

What is a Spa Pedicure? A Spa or Salon pedicure is a relaxing and beautifying treatment for your feet. Your feet are soaked and massaged, then scrubbed and the dead skin is removed from your heels and soles of your feet, then your toe nails are cleaned, trimmed and filed, your cuticles tidied, and then your pedicure is finished with your chosen nail polish. Doesn’t that just sound bliss!

Booking a Spa Pedicure:

When choosing a Spa Pedicure there are lots of places to choose from, such as small manicure and pedicure salons, larger pedicure specialists right through to luxurious day spas offering a wide range of pedicure treatments. Choose a place that best suits your budget, and the amount of time you have available. Our recommendation is to book a pedicure in advance to avoid waiting times, as whilst some salons may take walk in customers you may be waiting in a queue for a while.

If you’re visiting a pedicure salon for the first time, make sure the salon is hygienic and that the pedicure tools and foot baths being used have been disinfected or sterilized between customers.

If the same pedicure tools and footbaths are used for each customer without being disinfected, there is a chance of picking up an infection so it’s always best to check and confirm the health practices the salon uses.

What do I need to take for a Spa Pedicure?

You don’t need to take anything with you to a Spa Pedicure, however we recommend taking or wearing open toed shoes, sandals or flip flops which allows the nail polish to fully dry after the pedicure.

We’d also suggest you take something to read, as depending on the pedicure treatment you’ve chosen it make take thirty minutes to an hour, sometimes longer if you’re having a relaxing foot soak and exfoliating treatments and foot massages included.

If you have a favourite shade of nail polish, then you can take that along with you and have the polish applied by the salon. If you have your own pedicure kit, you’re welcome to take that with you as well, if you’d prefer not to use the salon pedicure tools that may not have been completely disinfected or sterilized. If you’re having your lower legs treated during your pedicure, we’d also recommend wearing clothes that allow the salon staff to exfoliate and massage your lower legs, so tight pants or jeans may not be the best attire. It’s also worth keeping in mind that your feet are likely to be elevated when sitting in the pedicure chairs, so a short skirt or dress may be embarrassing when the salon staff complete the spa pedicure.

Are there any times when I should avoid a Spa Pedicure?

You can have a spa pedicure whenever you choose, although we recommend not using hair removal cream, waxing or shaving your legs the day before your booking to reduce the risk of reacting to the pedicure treatment or picking up an infection.

If you have any bites, cuts or abrasions on your lower legs, ankles or feet, we also recommend postponing your spa pedicure until these have healed. This reduces the risk of infections as microorganisms can enter your skin through cuts or abrasions, especially if the footbath used hasn’t been disinfected.

Enjoying your Spa Pedicure:

Spa or Salon pedicures are relaxing, soothing and can help relieve stress and tension. We recommend spa pedicures for a treat, and they’re fun to do with friends where you can catch up on the latest news and gossip whilst your feet are soaked, scrubbed, massaged and your toe nails are treated and polished.

Spa Pedicures are a great way to keep your feet feeling fabulous and looking lovely, and pedicures are good for your feet too.

We often neglect our feet, and feel embarrassed by their appearance, so if you have the time and the budget, indulge yourself and try a spa pedicure – your feet will thank you for it.
