There is some controversy in the beauty industry as to whether nail fungus is a medical condition. It is best to check your state rules and regulations and find if the rules specifically state you can not work on nail fungus. My state board rules and regulations do not prevent it. Let’s talk about why you think so many people are suffering from nail fungus and is nail fungus a medical condition. One client after the other tells me their doctor even their podiatrist don’t even mention what is going on with their toenails when they go in. I did some research and had clients ask their doctors about why this is. Guess what we found out according to Harvard University, doctors are often guided by insurance company policies, and insurance companies tend to view toenail fungus as a cosmetic problem, so when people go to the doctor specifically for this issue they may end up paying out of pocket for treatment because the doctor can not bill the insurance specifically for nail fungus. But if you have an underlying condition like diabetes or a number of other systemic issues, because toenail fungus in diabetics can lead to other sorts of infections, The doctor can bill under a different condition. It is important to have a diagnosis and be sure it is a toenail fungus because there are other conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and other problems that can cause the nails to look deformed. It is best to check your insurance benefits and find if it is best to visit a podiatrist, a dermatologist or a general practitioner doctor. But if the medical industry considers nail fungus a cosmetic condition, then it is safe to say that is my field of expertise.
