Question by Cσηνєяѕє Cяαzу ☂: I decided i want to be a beauty therapist..?
As i’m really good at picking lots of home remedy creams and massages and stuff like that.

I also do hairdressing but the lady who teaches it treats me differently from everyone else, i know shes helping but it makes me really angry and she never lets me learn by myself without her having to say it in my earhole, so, she’s proved to me i can’t even be a hairdresser because of my disability (mild deafness) so i’m just going to work as a beauty therapist instead.

What NVQ’s do they include?
How long does it take to do?
Is it good money?
Will they accept someone with a mild disability?

Thanks ever so much!

My girlfriend is currently doing a course for beauty therapy.
Firstly you need 5 A-C grades, and then you go to your local college and ask for a prospectus

Sign on at the college where you can do beauty therapy level 2, this will ake a year to complete, then you will have to stay at college an extra year to do the level 3 course.

During this time you will learn how to cope in a salon – eyelashes, eyebrows, waxing, tanning, make – up, and quite alot of scientific things, so if your not good at science then start brightening up on it.

You will do a few exams throughout the 2 years, but most of the things will be assessments. I think theres about 20 different things – doing make up, being salon manager, reception, pedicure etc etc

During the course you can also do things like indian head massage, nail art etc for extra credit which i think comes in handy.

You could then go onto univercity however not everybody does.

The money depends on where you are working and what the place is….in a local town you would be expecting about £6 and hour, however to be a beauty therapist most move to large cities like Leeds, London etc.

Yes they will accept somebody with a mild disablitie that will be no problem.

I am a beauty therapist, I did level 2 and 3 also a make up diploma separately. I did it in 2 years but it is hard work, you need lots of people to practice on and the anatomy is hard. you do a lot of written assignments and need to study as you need to know every muscle and bone in the body, you learn what illnesses can be a ‘contra indication’ to treatment. Money wise I earned more being mobile myself, I built up my own client base and lived well from it, I don’t do it much now as I have a different job (part time housekeeper for a successful business couple) and we have our own business which I need to be home to answer the phone (thats why I get on here a bit! I love it!!) also a mild disability wont matter, I cannot believe that woman did that to you, mild deafness is NOT a disability in my book, my brother is totally deaf in one ear and he is up ladders every day with his job! they told him his balance would be an issue and it has not been at all. If you want to be a hairdresser do it, go to a different college to learn, I would have punched that woman in my younger days when I was training! good luck
